The document was written in 1893 by Registrar Charles Hodge and summarises the first 20 years of the University’s operation. The Registrar’s Letter Book records that it was forwarded to Mr Karl Trübner in Germany. However, the details of the request are not included.

The neatly handwritten 12 page ‘blot’ copy gives detailed information about the University’s establishment, governance, staff, endowments, prizes, revenue and fees.

Under the heading of ‘Progress’ (page 10), it states:

“Commencing in a very primitive manner in 1876 with the Arts course and the Matriculation examination, other schools were gradually added, until within 13 years of its establishment graduates in Law, Medicine, Arts, Science and Music were able to obtain degrees from the University of Adelaide.”

The document has been added to Series 169 Registrar’s Department Correspondence, and can be viewed by clicking here.
